Get Your Culture On
Your very own Holly Springs Cultural Center has several options to squeeze that last bit of culture into your 2015. (New Years Resolution achieved!) On November 20, a $5 ticket gets you in to see the NC band known as Nine Times Around, who will glide you effortlessly through the past 50 years of Irish music. If big band jazz is more your style, head to the Cultural Center on December 12 for The Route 55 Jazz Orchestra’s performance of “Silver Bells.” You just might spot someone you recognize in this highly talented community orchestra, which has been around for going on ten years. It’s $9 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Bravo!
Friendly Competition
The last thing you should do on date night is drone on and on about kids, work, or weather. What better way to jolt you out of your conversational rut than to engage in a little friendly competition? Bombshell Beer Company has free music bingo from 7-9PM on Wednesdays—simply identify each 15-second clip and mark it off on your card. Rounds are short and prizes are aplenty. Or, for something a bit more relaxed, take one of your old favorite board games to a quiet, comfy spot like Niche Wine Lounge. Just don’t let it be Risk, because they close at 2AM. Well, and because dominating your partner in a game about global domination might not actually bring the two of you together. (Unless that’s your thing.)
Us vs. Them
Going along with the theme of competition, how about gathering some couple friends together for a group date involving trivia. This option is especially recommended if you and your better half tend to fight over, well, who’s better at stuff. My Way Tavern has high-energy trivia on Tuesday nights from 8-10PM. If you’re not ready to go home when it’s over, ask staff to set up cornhole for you outside on the sidewalk. You and your honey can then go head-to-head with another couple on something a little less mentally taxing.
Date Morning
Because sometimes, at the end of the day, you’re tired. Instead of forsaking Netflix for an evening, try getting gussied up in the morning and heading out with your love for a fantastic first meal of the day. Bass Lake Draft House offers a tasty weekend brunch menu. And Mason Jar Tavern offers an $8 loaded bloody Mary—we’re talking the kind of drink you will want to take a selfie with. Just remember that on Sundays in North Carolina, alcohol can only be served after noon.
A Family Affair, Christmas Edition
You just can’t get away from the little rugrats, can you? Thankfully, our family-friendly town has got you covered. Main Street Christmas takes place on December 11 from 6-8PM. Highlights include a visit from Santa and storytime with his better half, Mrs. Claus, a hayride down Ballentine Street, a live nativity at Holly Springs Baptist Church, the annual lighting of the town Christmas tree, free live entertainment, crafts, refreshments, and much more. Take some time to celebrate your family, your town, and the joyous holiday. And maybe, before the night is over, you and your love will find yourselves under some mistletoe.
