You could say that the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation 11-12 Girls All-Star Basketball Team had a great year. Nearly 60 girls played on 6 teams over the course of the winter. The coaches nominated girls on their own teams and then all coaches voted on the nine All-Star Team members. The All-Stars cannot start until after the Rec season ends, including the end-of-season tournament, so the team was only able to have four practices as a team prior to the regional tournament in Randleman, NC. The tournament was played over a three day time span. The following weekend was the State Championship in Jacksonville, NC.
At the State Championship, the team defeated the Knightdale All-Star Team as well as the Onslow County All-Star Team (twice). Both tournaments were double elimination format hence beating the one team twice.
This was the first 11-12 girls team from Holly Springs to win the State Championship in about a decade. The last team to do so featured a player, Kiara Leslie, who is just completing her college basketball career as a star player at NC State. The team will be honored by the Holly Springs Town Council. The team will also be honored, and team members listed, on a banner to be hung in the Hunt Center.
