After the hectic holiday season, it can be difficult to figure out what kinds of activities to do with the family. Luckily, Holly Springs is fortunate to have its very own Cultural Center that offers residents a diverse lineup of shows which appeal to people of every age. This January and February, there are two special shows that should be on your calendar.
Fans of period dramas like Downton Abbey will be pleased to find out that Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is coming to the stage. The ultimate rom-com was written more than 200 years ago, but the themes of this classic novel still
resonate today – especially among young adults. Elizabeth Bennet was a free thinker for her generation, refusing to marry for money alone, and holding out for affection. The play has sex, lies, runaway teens and dysfunctional families – ideal to coax your teenager away from their phone to spend quality time with the family.
Pride and Prejudice is a completely local community theatre production, as part of Stageworks Theatre’s third season. You never know who in town will show up on stage! Director Nathalie Tondeur will make her directorial debut in this production. For anyone interested in auditioning for upcoming performances or working backstage, they should check out Holly Springs Cultural Center’s Facebook page for volunteer opportunities.
Anyone with elementary school-aged children knows about the book series called Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty. Now you can bring your inquisitive out-of-the-box thinkers to a new inspiring musical based on the popular books. Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends is a fun adventure through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) that will entertain the whole family. You can get an exciting look into Ms. Greer’s classroom and be treated to Rosie’s big dreams, Iggy’s passion for architecture and Ada’s fearless curiosity. If any teachers would like to bring their students to Rosie Revere, the Cultural Center staff can provide them with an activity packet, with educational activities they can do before and after seeing the show. There is only one performance of this national theatre company production, so get your tickets soon.
