As Holly Springs continues to grow, the town’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee continues to pursue new opportunities to build parks and greenways while also expanding current infrastructures.
Construction for Sugg Farm’s new dog park and restroom facilities is nearly finished. A restroom facility has been erected, including single gender restrooms, a separate family restroom and a small office for park staff. For parking, a 23-car gravel parking lot will be developed, including four paved, accessible parking spots to serve both the restroom and the dog park.
The off-leash, one-acre dog park has planned to open in late February with two separate areas for large and small dogs. Dogs over 30 pounds can play in the designated large dog area, and small dogs under 30 pounds can roam in another fenced-in area. No children under the age of 12 are permitted in the dog park. It will be open from 8 a.m. ET to one hour before park closing (signs are posted at the gate). There is no fee to enter the dog park. Friendly reminder that dogs must meet all current vaccinations. In addition to new developments at Sugg Farm, the Town of Holly Springs is now planning for a park in the quickly expanding, western part of the town. A key piece of land was purchased about a year ago across from Holly Springs High School on Cass Holt Road, which will provide residents their first recreational park in the growing area to the west of the NC 55 highway. With over 55 acres of farmland, it will take a number of years to complete the park. Once residents share input, the park could feature things like walking trails, play structures, picnic areas, athletic fields, restrooms, an indoor facility and parking.
At press time, the Town was soliciting proposals from qualified professional landscape architecture and engineering firms to provide design and planning services for the park. The deadline for plan submissions was on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
