217 Raleigh Street, Holly Springs
The property at 217 Raleigh Street is unique in Holly Springs, and one of those homes that preserves the character of Holly Springs just off of N. Main Street. The home sits on an enormous 3.33-acre lot that extends deep into the property. The house was built in 1890 and last renovated in 1970. The property sold in April for $375,000. The concern was that a business would come in, knock down the house, and try to create a large business or more housing there.
Plans have been submitted to the town, but they are not what you might expect. The proposal includes converting the back of the house (2,320 square feet) into office space, and adding a concrete pad for parking, connecting to the existing concrete driveway. There will also be some new shrubs and foliage planted.
I think we speak for many when we say that this is great to see.

Avent Ferry Road Widening Phase 1
This project consists of widening approximately 1,800 linear feet of Avent Ferry Road, completing the widening of Avent Ferry Road from N.C. 55 to Ralph Stephens Road (formerly Piney Grove Wilbon Road). With the widening comes right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation.
The design includes a continuous green T-intersection, which allows vehicles on Avent Ferry Road to travel continuously from N.C. 55 toward Ralph Stephens Road without stopping at the shopping center signal. Vehicles from the shopping center will be able to turn left at the signal into a dedicated travel lane on Avent Ferry Road without disrupting the continuous flow of traffic from N.C. 55. Construction is starting now.
Avent Ferry Road Widening Phase 2
This project consists of widening approximately 3,600 linear feet of Avent Ferry Road from Ralph Stephens Road (formerly Piney Grove Wilbon Road) to Cass Holt Road. Widening will require right-of-way acquisition and utility relocations.
Although Avent Ferry is a state-maintained road, the town has agreed to administer design, right-of-way acquisition and construction in order to begin construction sooner. The N.C. Department of Transportation will provide 100 percent of project funding, estimated at $8 million. The estimated construction start is mid-2020.
540 and Holly Springs
There are a lot of new residents in Holly Springs. When the topic of 540 comes up, it seems that few people know exactly where it’s going. Unfortunately, we’re part of that group. We don’t know EXACTLY where it’s going, but we have a good idea. The map may be off by an acre or two, but it will give you an idea of the route. Based on the available maps, we’ve drawn up a map to show the route. Note that our route is approximate, but may be off by an acre or two. If you’re concerned about a specific area, please contact the DOT to get more precise information. The X locations are where there will be intersections.
