On August 3rd, Archibald’s Tavern in Holly Springs held the first annual Bill Medlin Memorial golf Tournament in Devil’s Ridge Golf Club. The goal was a simple one. Proceeds were to benefit Zach’s Toy Chest.
Zach’s Toy Chest is a Holly Springs non-profit organization designed to help pediatric cancer patients at local NC hospitals.
The organization was started by Zach’s mom after Zach had gone through cancer in 2008. Zach had a form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a solid tumor cancer that begins in the nerve tissue of the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis but usually originates in the abdomen in the tissue of the adrenal gland. It usually affects children under 5 years old. We were very fortunate to catch Zach’s during a sick visit to his pediatrician. He had not had any symptoms of pain, but merely the sniffles.
Zach’s Toy Chest collects toys and donations in order to help the children and the family of the children in NC diagnosed with cancer. Part of their mission; “To alleviate some of the day to day stresses of receiving treatments, we donate items (mainly toys) to local hospitals in North Carolina that we know kids of all ages will love.”
Donations are accepted through the website at zachstoychest.org
Monetary donations are used for clothing, blankets, hotels stays for visiting families, transportation to and from the hospital for families, and restocking the toy chest when needed.
They are always looking for gifts for the children if you can help.
Archibald’s Tavern is located at 5160 Sunset Lake Rd.
